Public Finance Live 2022

CIPFA holds Public Finance Live every year, in a different location, for public finance professionals like you!

This year, the conference was held in Liverpool on 13 and 14 July. The conference is aimed at professionals working in public finance and accountancy in the UK and globally.

Public Finance Live 2022 was attended by over 700 finance professionals. The event included plenaries and workshops on everything from climate change to digital fraud. The conference brought together practitioners, commentators and experts for sector updates, discussions and insights into public finance and public service management.

The conference featured leading public figures, public sector innovators, commercial partners, commentators and analysts alongside delegates from across the public sector and beyond.

Item 1 of 3

During the conference, CIPFA announced this years honorary officers, including Jayne Owen, President for 2022/23.

Jayne opened the conference with an address, during which she set out her three themes for the coming year.

The themes are sustainability, stronger together and social mobility.

The address also examined the current political and financial situation facing the country, and expressed Jayne's projections of the coming months.

I believe that now more than ever we need great and trusted public finance professionals who are not only good with numbers and data, but who are also creative, resilient and committed to getting people through this immensely difficult time. If the public sector is not there for them when they need us most, then that is not the public sector that I know

Jayne Owen

Item 1 of 2

Plus, there was opportunity for delegate participation and lots of thought provoking discussion.

There was also plenty of time for delegates to socialise and network...

...over drinks at the social events...

...or over (free) coffee in the conference hall.

There were plenty of stalls to explore between sessions.

Item 1 of 3

The programme was packed with varied and interesting sessions, including...

New economic and political realities: where do we go from here?

Do we need a public finance settlement for young people?

Understanding our diverse past; securing a more inclusive future

How can we build a sustainable and inclusive world?

Can levelling up unite the country?

and don’t forget the Student Conference, during which a range of public finance professionals shared their career advice and took part in lively discussions with the CIPFA students.

Well see you there!
